At Optimum Design Technology in Minneapolis, we use heatmap analysis to take the guesswork out of web design and build websites that truly convert.
What Are Heatmaps?
Heatmaps are visual representations of user behavior. They use color coding – from cool blue to hot red – to show you where users are most engaged. Instead of looking at numbers in a spreadsheet, you get a clear, visual picture of what your visitors love and what they miss.
3 Types of Heatmaps That Improve Your Website
1. Click Maps: Find Out What Gets Attention
A click map shows you every place users click on your site. Are they clicking on your main Call-to-Action button? Or are they clicking on an image that isn’t clickable? This insight is invaluable. We use click maps to place important buttons, forms, and links exactly where users expect them, which increases conversions for our Minneapolis clients.
2. Scroll Maps: Keep Important Content Above the Fold
Do visitors actually see your content? A scroll map shows you how far down the page people scroll. If only 30% of visitors reach your pricing section or contact form at the bottom of the page, you know you need to move it higher. Scroll maps help us structure your pages to keep critical information visible and reduce bounce rates.
3. Move and Attention Maps: Understand User Interest
Move maps track where users move their mouse, which correlates strongly with where their eyes are looking. Attention maps show which parts of the page users spend the most time on. If users are spending a lot of time reading one section but skipping another, we know what content is valuable and what needs to be rewritten or removed.
From Insight to Action
Heatmaps provide the “why” behind the “what” you see in Google Analytics. For example, Analytics might show a high bounce rate on your service page. A heatmap will show you why – maybe your form is too far down, your headline isn’t compelling, or a confusing layout is causing users to leave.
At Optimum Design Technology, we integrate tools like Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity, and Crazy Egg into our UX optimization process. We analyze the data, redesign problem areas, and A/B test solutions to continuously improve your website’s usability and performance.
Don’t just design for what you think users want. Design for what they actually do.
